About Us: Govange Hand-crafted Exotic Fruit Wines
By Unique Eunice Wines

The secret of fine living is healthy living; and today it would seem people crave the good stuff, and want to be perceived as intelligent beings worthy of being taken seriously – so if you are socially well-situated, environmentally aware, and politically conscious, it goes without saying that you are also systematically being nudged into a health conscious lifestyle. The good news is healthy living prolongs life – so continue - savor fine living without any qualms…….

Here on our tiny island of Jamaica, we take pride in what we produce because not only do we produce the best in many categories but also our brands promote healthy living. To wit, we’ve produced Bob Marley whose poignant lyrics and reggae music rock the soul; we’ve produced the fastest hundred, and two hundred meter athlete: the very charismatic Usain Bolt whose nutritious daily diet forms the basis of his accomplishments; we produce Blue Mountain coffee: its taste and aroma carry consumers to morning glory and back; and now we produce Govange hand-crafted exotic fruit wines and blends – a line of premium wines, artfully fermented between 12% to 15% alcohol from multi vitamin-rich Jamaican fruit juices. These have no chemical preservatives and therefore tend to naturally sooth, reenergize, or excite you.

Govange a family-owned micro business operated by Headley and Sylvia Milliner and staff is a pioneer of commercial fruit wine production. The site is on an acre orchard of twenty fruit varieties in the community of Retreat, just two miles from Morant Bay, in the parish of St. Thomas - right on the eastern tip of Jamaica. Welcome to the parish home of the rebel national hero Paul Bogle of the Maroons! Here the different soils of black coal, bauxite clay, limestone and other mixtures provide the essential minerals and nutrients for organically growing fruits such as Jamaican Cherry, Guinep, cashew, cherry plum, almonds, star apples, guava, Jack fruits as well as herbs, spices and tannins used in producing their wines; and no wonder, the entire community was originally the country retreat property of former Prime Minister of Jamaica, Mr. Alexander Bustamante.

In 1998 the initial objective was to create, through diligent experimentation, exceptional qualities of boutique wine batches that the Milliners would offer special friends. But as accolades for their wine blends increased, by 2001, their vision became magnified. They sought to perfect their wine-making technique, bring it to an art form, and open up a product niche on the international wellness/tourism market thereby creating jobs and an awareness that there are health benefits in drinking an occasional glass of wine with your meal.

Quality Control:

To maintain the uniqueness of our technique as well as a high quality of wine, our staff are Food Handlers Permit holders, our fruits are hand-picked, separated, grouped, washed, peeled, and cut manually;  our spices, herbs and tannins are cut, washed, and also dried manually. To ensure that best practices of hygiene, health and manufacturers’ standards are kept at the site, our containers and tools have been approved and sealed by the Jamaica Bureau of Standards, The Jamaica Ministry of Health . We are also registered with these entities who regularly inspect the premises without prior notice. We are also registered at the Rural Agricultural Development Agency, registered with the Jamaica Business Development Corporation, The Private Sector Development Program, members of the Wellness and Tourism Clusters.
